We (Pelle Ågren and Andreas Willman) met when we worked together in the beverage industry in 2011. We realised rather quickly that we shared several interests but, above all, our interest in craft beer. We had for some time been thinking about brewing our own beer but struggled to get started. We decided to attend the SHBF's beginners’ course for beer brewers in their old premises on Högbergsgatan in Stockholm and only then did we really get to see what home brewing was really about. We then started brewing in the garage of Grandfather Lennart (Pelle’s grandfather) in an area in south west Stockholm called Värmdö. We initially brewed with a varying degree of success. We competed in Svenska Mästerskapen(a Swedish home brewing championship) and finished in 5th place in the people's choice with our APA. Of course we wanted to win, but since this was our 8th batch ever, we accepted our 5th place.
We, together with several friends, soon realised that we preferred our own beer to that of some commercial brands, which made us explore the possibility of starting something of our own.
We threw open the doors to Fjäderholmarnas Brewery and Brewpub on the island of Stora Fjäderholmen in May 2014. The idea was to construct a micro-brewery with integrated pub (a so-called “brewpub”) which offers our visitors the opportunity to sample the beer directly from the bright beer tanks. This concept is relatively unusual in Sweden today and we hope to give our visitors a different and unique experience. We also believe that the location on the island of Fjäderholmarna – the closest island in the archipelago to central Stockholm - will add to the experience. We also think it is interesting to be located in an area of historical significance harking back to the famous “brännvinskriget” or “aquavitwar” (a dispute between the Royal monopoly and a private aquavit company regarding the selling of liquor) in the 1870s and 1880s. We consider the brewing of beer to be an art, or rather a craft, and hence ”craft beer”, which means that we fit well with other traders on the island
Our ambition is to be able to offer visitors a genuine craft beer experience that will etch itself into the taste memory for a while. We not only welcome individual guests and groups, but can also host corporate functions for those who are interested in an experience in the form of beer tasting and the craft behind beer brewing.
